NASHVILLE, Tenn.
Five-time GRAMMY nominee, two-time NSAI Songwriter-Artist of the Year and award-winning hitmaker Matthew West releases his 14th studio album, Jesus Is King, out now. The 12-track record begins and ends with its title track, a declaration West returns to after songs about failure, forgiveness, unanswered questions and letting go of control.
“Making this album reminded me that I don't make a very good king of my own life,” shares West. “The good news is, I don't have to be. Every song on this record is a reminder of who Jesus is and what happens when we surrender our lives to Him. My prayer is that these songs help people discover the freedom, hope and peace that come from letting Jesus take His rightful place on the throne of our hearts.”
West wrote or co-wrote all 12 songs around a single prompt, “Jesus is ___,” with each song offering an answer. “Don't Give Up On Me” reminds listeners that Jesus is faithful, even to those who fear they've failed too many times. “Good” points to the truth that Jesus is good and His love isn't something to earn. His current Christian radio single, “Back To Jesus,” follows as a response to grace, reminding listeners that no matter how far they've wandered or how many wrong turns they've taken, Jesus is always the way back home. In “The Good Fight,” Jesus is strength for those facing battles of their own, while “Shame Is Not My Story” points to the redemption found in Him. “Jesus Is King” anchors it all with the truth West declares at both the beginning and the end of the album: no matter what is happening in the world, Jesus is still on the throne.
West is currently bringing Jesus Is King to fans across the country on his 17-stop tour, with dates through Oct. 4. The “contemporary Christian stalwart” (GRAMMY) has also announced an April 25, 2027 show at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium, with general onsale beginning Oct. 5 and additional dates to be announced soon. West just notched his 40th No. 1 song with a co-write on Jon Reddick's “Holding On (Praise God),” adding to a decorated career defined by his rare longevity and impact as a recording artist and songwriter. In addition to being named NSAI's Songwriter-Artist of the Year twice, West is an ASCAP Golden Note Award recipient, ASCAP Songwriter of the Year nominee and a multi-year ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter-Artist of the Year winner, with more than 375 songwriting credits to his name.
