… suffering leads to…

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:3-5 (NIV)

2 John 1:7-13

7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. 12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. 13 The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.

I Be, Therefore I Do

Who BE you? The answer to that grammatically-stricken question is key to this question: What Do you? In God's economy, BEING precedes DOING. But in religion, and too often in life, we are taught that we must DO something in order to BE someone. Bull. The biblical pattern is GRACE unto works. Check it out.

The Apostle John emphasizes the two greatest commandments

The Daily Pulse (Thursday, January 8, 2015): Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. 1 John 4:20-21 (NIV)

The legacy we leave: how TO do it

The Daily Pulse (Tuesday, January 6, 2015): However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20;24 (NIV)

7 Letters, 7 Churches: First Love of Ephesus

Southside Baptist Church

1-4-15 Message: "Unrestricted Access!"

The law is dead and we are now married, by grace, to Christ! It is folly to try and revive the law. All sincere souls have access to God, without restrictions. We have no right to label unclean or common those whom God has deemed clean by reason of faith in and obedience to His Gospel!

The legacy we leave: how NOT to do it

The Daily Pulse (Monday, January 5, 2015): ... Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me.” But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it... 1 Samuel 31:1-6 (NIV)

New Year's resolutions

The Daily Pulse (Sunday, January 4, 2015): I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

What if, in 2015, we loved unconditionally?

The Daily Pulse (Saturday, January 3, 2015): Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV)
