Mental Health Check In
Inspiration for Men

A big part of what we do at Winning At Home is offering counseling and coaching services. We’ve all seen how mental health has become more of a focus for many people over the past 5 or 6 years. And at Winning At Home, we’ve seen growth in demand for our services that matches up with that new focus.
The counseling component of our ministry started in the early 2000s with one counselor. By 2005, we had a few more. Today, we have 23 counselors and 6 coaches in two locations in West Michigan–our original Zeeland location and our Holland location that opened in 2020. Our Tampa Bay offices operate out of a few different sites (in order to make the commute accessible for more people) and opened in 2017, where we have 4 counselors and 3 coaches.
I’m not trying to impress you with those numbers, but I want to let you know that we’re growing in response to the increased demand for mental health services. Depending on where you find the stats, somewhere between 20% and 30% of American adults deal with anxiety or depression to some significant degree in any given year, with younger adults experiencing these issues at an even higher rate. It’s very hard to find accurate numbers for kids and teens, but the general consensus is that rates of anxiety and depression have increased substantially in younger people in the past couple of decades. We’re not a research-focused organization, so I don’t want to focus too much on the numbers. But I think they’re worth mentioning because I think it can be helpful for kids, teens, and adults to realize that if they are dealing with some level of anxiety or depression, they are far from alone!
If you or your loved one are dealing with anxiety or depression–or a number of other mental health concerns, I hope you’ll consider reaching out to somebody for help. There are counselors and coaches who focus specifically on working with kids, teens, young adults, couples, or individuals in areas like anxiety, depression, communication, spiritual direction, intimacy, body image, trauma, and many other topics.
If you or a loved one has been trying to navigate some of these challenging topics on your own, or with whatever help you could find from books or videos you’ve been able to find online, I want to encourage you to consider reaching out to set up an appointment with a counselor or coach. I hope you’ll reach out to use some of the tools we have available to help come alongside of you!
