This week, one of my readers is going to win a one-year subscription to the My Well Planned Day software! Yes, you read that right. Someone is going to win a subscription to the planning software that does everything except the cooking, cleaning, and chauffeuring! But first, let me tell you about it. . . .
To be able to write books, home-school, mentor teen moms, go on mission trips, and, well, do the mom and wife stuff, one has to be organized. This blog isn’t long enough to list all the ways I’ve attempted to “organize my life” over the years—especially the “home-school” part.
Yes, there have been various attempts at creating chore charts, family menus, shopping list, and my budget (for starters). I’m sorry now for the forest of trees that sacrificed themselves to help me make my life manageable.
I’ve used calendars, posters, spread sheets, sticky notes, printouts . . . you get the picture. Currently, I have my schedule on iCal, my menu of sticky notes on the fridge, and my budget in a spreadsheet on my computer—to name a few.
I never really thought I could have everything in once place, but it’s possible!
The Well Planned Day offers:
-fully customizable planning
-organization for lesson plans, curriculum lists
-assignments, activities, and grading
-a way to plan menus and form a shopping list
-an easy way to keep up with kid’s chores & responsibilities
-a management system for the family’s calendar…
-…and a easy spreadsheet for budgets and bills
-There’s also a place for projects and to-dos. All in one place!
It’s unfortunate that this year the only one I’m homeschooling is my two-year-old. (We play with play dough and do puzzles, and she’s learning the sounds of the letters in the alphabet.) My oldest son is married, and my middle two are in college. I’m sort of sad about that because I wanted to play with the hom-eschool section in this program!
The homeschooling sections include:
-School Years
-Subjects
-Curriculum
-Literature
-Lesson Plans
-Assignments
-Attendance
-Activities
Reports
The pros:

I love the idea of having everything in one place. Score!

When you add various things (activities, menus, etc.,) they are added to the same calendar, so you can see everything with one glance.

I especially enjoyed the library section that allowed you to search for books to add. By putting in the ISBN, the cover and other details of the book popped up.

Did I mention how cool it is to have everything in one place?

The cons:

The downside was that there weren’t as many books “listed” (with covers and such) as I wanted to add to the library, so I had to type in the information myself.

One other downside was in the “Menu” section. I wanted to post the whole recipe in the “note” field, but it didn’t work. When I tried, it just simply didn’t add the menu item. I solved this problem by adding a web link to the recipe instead.

Since I don’t have homeschooled kids this year, I haven’t played with the curriculum sections enough to get a good feel for them, but what I did see looked great! I’m still learning my way around this software, and there are several updates coming soon. I anticipate it will get more user-friendly, and it looks as if they have some great additions that will be added. I can’t wait to see!
