Don Kroah's Legacy
With a heavy heart, the team at WAVA FM shares with our audience the passing of Don Kroah, our longtime talk show host at the station.
Don worked in radio for over five decades. While serving as a new pastor in Portland, Maine, he started a weekly radio program airing on Sunday evenings. Due to the high listener response on that radio station, he was quickly promoted to host the Monday through Friday morning show. In 1996, Don joined Salem Media Group and the WAVA FM Christian Radio team in DC. For over 25 years, Don hosted The Don Kroah Show daily on WAVA, as well as the nationally syndicated Christian Outlook radio program, which aired weekly on over 100 radio stations and on SiriusXM.
He won numerous honors including NRB Talk Show of the Year, Salem Talk Show of the Year and over 10 Virginia Association of Broadcasters Awards. He also served as the Senior Pastor of Plymouth Haven Baptist Church, in Alexandria, VA for 10 years; and was appointed President of “Reach Africa Now”, a non-profit ministry equipping pastors for ministry work and helping build Christian schools and a hospital in Africa.
Don's ability to combine Biblical wisdom with current events gave him a unique platform recognized by Ministry, Cultural, and Political leaders worldwide. He encouraged many with his love for God, for others, and his passion to serve. Though we are saddened, we rejoice for our friend and mourn with his family.
Here are some quotes from those who were close to Don and had worked with him in the Salem Family for years.
David Howard, current GM of Salem Washington, DC shared, “Don Kroah was a driving force at WAVA/FM. He cared deeply about each and every listener that we touched, every ministry that we served, and every congregant that attended his beloved Plymouth Haven Baptist Church. His reputation and experience in the Christian Teaching and Talk space was second to none. I’ll treasure my time working closely with Don and getting to know the man behind the mic. He loved his family and could regal for hours about his children, his wives and all his grandchildren. His outreach into Africa to help those in need was most impressive. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love and commitment. God speed Don. Take your rest in the Lord”
Tom Moyer, former GM of Salem Washington, DC, added, "Don looked at his radio talk show work as a calling. He was a fantastic talk show host, but he was even better in the pulpit, teaching and preaching God's Word. Don's radio program on WAVA and ministry work with Reach Africa Now literally reached around the world, spreading the Gospel and encouraging the Body of Christ. There will never be another Don Kroah. But there are many more followers of Jesus due to Don's steadfast commitment to God."
