Patience with Yourself in Growth

Growth rarely happens as quickly as we would like.

Whether we’re growing spiritually, emotionally, or personally, we often become frustrated when progress feels slow. We focus on how far we still have to go instead of recognizing how much God has already done.

Angie Grant compares the Christian life to training for a marathon. Runners don’t wake up ready for race day. They endure difficult workouts, sore muscles, setbacks, and long seasons of preparation. Yet every step contributes to their growth and endurance. The same is true in our walk with God.

Psalm 34:19 reminds us that difficulties are part of the journey. God never promised a trouble-free path, but He does promise His presence and deliverance. Like a coach guiding an athlete through a challenging course, God faithfully leads us through life’s valleys and hardships.

The danger comes when we become consumed with the finish line. We overlook the lessons God is teaching us today. We compare our progress to someone else’s. We become impatient with ourselves.

But God’s invitation is simple: trust the process. Focus on the next faithful step. Allow Him to shape your character, deepen your faith, and strengthen your endurance.

One day you’ll look back and realize that the hills you struggled to climb were the very places where God built strength within you.

Prayer

Jesus,

Thank You for the race You have set before me. When I become frustrated with my progress, remind me that growth takes time and that You are still working in my life.

Help me stop comparing my journey to others. Teach me to trust Your timing and focus on the next faithful step rather than becoming overwhelmed by the entire race ahead.

Give me grace for my mistakes, patience for the process, and confidence that You are using every season—even the difficult ones—to shape me into the person You created me to be.

Thank You for never giving up on me and for faithfully guiding me every step of the way.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
